What Is Low Testosterone Therapy?

Low testosterone therapy, sometimes referred to as Low T therapy, is a treatment protocol that some medical doctors prescribe for a condition called Low T. “Low T” is a diagnosis given to men (mostly older men) who have symptoms of a deficit of testosterone, one of the body’s naturally occurring hormones.

Some doctors will prescribe men one or more testosterone drugs after they report symptoms such as the following:

• Bone density loss
• Muscle weakness
• Fatigue
• Malaise
• Poor sex drive

In an effort to combat these problems, big pharmaceutical companies have created and marketed a number of drugs and treatment types with the goal of restoring and replenishing testosterone in men whose levels have gone down considerably or are virtually non-existent.

If you were prescribed low testosterone drugs, or if a family member was prescribed them, and you or they suffered serious medical injuries, the chances of you winning a lawsuit are very high. Contact our expert legal team to find out what your legal options are.

Were You Duped?

One of the big problems is that these drug manufacturers don’t make the risks of taking these drugs clear enough. “Big Pharma” is notorious for being unethical and greedy, but that doesn’t mean their actions have no consequences. Some of the companies making these drugs weren’t clear enough about the risks, and some may have engaged in aggressive marketing that undermined careful and critical thinking on the risks and dangers of these drugs.

The good news is that you can fight back. You might even walk away with serious money for the damages you suffered. If you were duped, and you suffered serious medical injuries as a result of these drugs, you could be entitled to compensation.

Aggressive marketing campaigns have more than tripled the number of prescriptions for low testosterone drugs in the last decade. You may have been exposed to advertising that offered you a safe, smart way to counteract the symptoms of “Low T”. The advertisements listed symptoms like mood changes, decreased libido, and muscle weakness. These are common symptoms of “Low T”, but these drugs were not as safe or effective as advertised. Furthermore, many men do not actually have “Low T”. Less than half of the men prescribed these kinds of drugs have hypogonadism, which is a diminished functional activity of the glands.

More than 4% of men aged 60 and over are on these drugs. However, nearly half of these men don’t have hypogonadism. Moreover, nearly a quarter of patients never had their testosterone levels checked before taking the drugs.

This kind of aggressive marketing is irresponsible and unethical. The drug companies will be held accountable.

You Are Not The Only One Who Will Fight Back

After suffering chest pains, strokes, and heart attacks, men are fighting back with lawsuits against the makers of testosterone therapy products. There are more men seeking help for low testosterone problems and conditions, which has lead to an increasing number of reports of serious side effects – even death.

Between 2001 and 2011, the number of men older than 40 who started on Low T treatments more than tripled. The rise in popularity of these drugs has led to research on the dangers of these drugs. The evidence is clear – these drugs can be very dangerous.

If you received low T therapy or used low T products, and you suffered any health problems as a result, you could get financial compensation by contacting a lawyer who specializes in these types of lawsuits. Men from all over the country have already filed lawsuits against the manufactures of these products. You can fight back and file a lawsuit too.

The Proof Is Here – And It Is Clear: Low T Therapy Is Dangerous

Lawsuits against manufacturers of low testosterone therapies and products are netting big money for victims. The proof that these treatments are dangerous is clear. A study published by the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) in late 2013 revealed that the risk of stroke and heart attack rose almost 30% in patients that used Testosterone Therapy. More than 8,000 men took part in the study, and the evidence is clear and convincing.

Another study published in PLOS One found that men over the age of 65 who took Testosterone Therapy doubled their risk of heart attack. For men who have a history of heart disease, they triple their risk of heart attack. The PLOS One study had even more participants than the JAMA study: 56,000 males of all ages took part in the study.

The FDA is currently investigating low testosterone products and therapies as a result of these two studies. Meanwhile, lawsuits are moving forward. Testosterone Therapy is sold under different brand names. If you’ve used Testrim, Striant, Fortesta, Androderm, Bio-T-Gel, Delatestryl, Testopel, Depo-Testosterone, Axiron, or AndroGel, then you need to call a lawyer as soon as possible.

There is a very real possibility that a lawyer could win you some serious money. An experienced lawyer who specializes in these kinds of lawsuits will likely win your lawsuit if you were a victim of Low T therapy.

Low Testosterone Therapy Side Effects

While low testosterone treatment is prescribed to combat the effects of aging such as diminished libido, lowered muscle strength and bone density, erectile dysfunction and depression, it has now been proven by medical studies that testosterone products can have adverse health effects, ranging from minor to more serious, life-threatening ones. Serious side-effects include:

Myocardial infraction (heart attacks)

This is the most common type of side effects that has been seen in patients who undertook low testosterone therapy. Patients with a history of heart disease and complications were more likely to have a heart attack.

The second most common type of side effects. This happens because of a disturbance in the blood supply to the brain. Mini-strokes (transient ischemic attack or TIA) are also possible and have been alleged at least in one lawsuit against the makers of AndroGel

Prostate Cancer

While the research is not as conclusive as it is on heart strokes and heart attacks, the risk for prostate cancer has not been entirely ruled out. Those who have undergone or are currently undergoing testosterone therapy are advised to take a PSA test once or twice a year.
